We are considering the impossible
Mower asked if we should get two puppies, both registered Shih Tzu's, and have them as pets but also let them breed and sell the puppies. I am torn. I think there are a lot of loving people out there who would enjoy buying a puppy from someone who isn't a traditional breeder or running a pet store or puppy mill. I would only want them to breed once a year, for the female's health and for the agony the kids would go through in letting the puppies go. But can we really handle the extra poop, the vet bills, the grooming, the initial cost? I think the benefits outweigh the concerns, but I am still worried. I say I am not a dog person, but I think in essence, I am not a high energy pet person. If we chose Little Floor Dusters that were more inclined to be couch potatos than racing around the house, I could handle that and do the grooming. It's the high energy, overly excited dogs that I can't handle. Pumpkin was like that with us--she had no control and we unfortunately did not go to training with her to help all of us learn it. I like that they would keep each other company when we weren't available to give 100% of our attention, and the kids would learn about nature and commerce in the creating and selling of the puppies. AAARRRGGGHHH! I hope we are doing the right thing!
