There's no freaking way I would do this

We took Bubba to the movies, and as is her custom now, she wants to talk to the other kids, but needs some prompting on what to talk to them about. What's his name? How old is he? Does he like Spongebob Squarepants or Spiderman more? Bubba was sitting in the seat just one away from a woman with her son on the other side of her, and Bubba was chatting with her son. The movie hadn't started yet, so the lights were still up. The woman commented on how pretty her hair was, and for effect as she said thank you, Bubba swished her hair like the girls in the Pantene commercials.

Then I almost beat the crap out of this woman when she asked in a depreciating tone, "Are you going to cut her hair for the summer?"

I laughed her off, and said that we never cut it and won't until she leaves for the nunnery.

Why this bothers me, I am still trying to figure out. Maybe it's because Bubba has the most perfect hair in the world. Maybe it's because if we were going to cut Bubba's hair, I'd keep it for if her hair ever fell out and she needed a wig. I know we should donate it to Locks of Love, and if she insists on that, if she ever insists she wants her hair cut, then we'll do that. It's her hair. But part of me is very proud of her hair, and the suggestion that we should chop it off for something as trivial as the summer eats away at my soul. How could this woman not understand that her hair is more precious than gold--she saw it with her own eyes? How could she think that hair that enviable and rare should be destroyed for a season? Was it the tone in her voice that indicated that she was highly jealous of my daughter and wanted to see her brought down to the level of regular women that can't grow their hair out like that?

We got Handsome's hair cut for the second time, and I kept saying, "The shorter the better." It is very much a soldier's cut without being bald or a buzz cut, and he looks more like when he was a little baby now with shorter hair. His eyes stand out, and I love the cut. I love his curls too, but the way they grow out, they grow into his ears and honestly, he gets boogers and food in them and he fights me so hard, the shorter hair works better for all our health.

But Bubba's hair, Bubba's hair is sacred, and those who see it in person should pay us for the pleasure. Sorry to be a bitch about it, but oh well. God help any kid who ever takes scissors to her hair--the wrath of Peej will not be pretty.

Maybe it's time to take those happy pills.
